Richard brings an extensive background in radio and television broadcasting, acting, choral music, and professional photography to his work in theatrical video production.
Richard began his work in the entertainment industry during his stints as top-40 disc jockey on top-rated AM radio stations on the East Coast and in the Midwest during the 1960s and 70s. In 1975, Richard made the move to L.A. to pursue a brief acting career in episodic television and commercials after joining Screen Actor’s Guild and AFTRA. He performed on stage in acting roles at the Colony Theater-Burbank, Morgan-Wixon Theater-Santa Monica and the Scherr Forum-Thousand Oaks. He taught radio/tv production in Hollywood, coached and directed young actors, and used his skills in still photography to provide headshots and portfolios to performers including Jim Carrey, Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Jack Black, Virginia Madsen, Heather Locklear and others who were climbing the ladder to stardom.
In 2005, Richard’s interest grew in the field of theatrical video production, capturing live stage performances in the Southern California area at Oak Park High School, Westlake High School and other area middle and elementary schools. Richard currently produces videos for Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California, capturing all their stage performances including orchestral and choral concerts, musicals, plays and dance company recitals. Richard produces videos for Aspire Dance Studios, Los Robles Children’s Choir, Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, and others.
To capture each event, Richard uses up to four cameras, recording in resolutions 4K up to 8K. Where usually available, he records clean, clear audio from the theater control board and augments audio recording with separate microphone arrays if needed. Finished videos are in 4K video resolution and high quality audio. In post-production he looks for the best camera angle for the moment and edits those choices to work appropriately with the timing of music and the mood. Each finished video is produced in 4K video resolution and high-quality stereo sound.
Richard considers his video productions more than simply recordings of a performance. They capture memories that performers and their families can revisit and enjoy for years to come. He approaches each production with that goal in mind, striving to deliver a finished video worthy of the performance it preserves.
